We have great pleasure in welcoming Arwen Gilbert as the new Musical Director of the Society.

Arwen started learning the piano at the age of 4 and the violin at 6.  Music was always a big part of her life whilst growing up, and she enjoyed playing in various local Youth Orchestras as well as singing in local Choral Societies and a Music Theatre group.  Arwen studied Music at Selwyn College, Cambridge where she was a keen member of the Chapel Choir throughout her degree course, and was also Chair of the College Music Society in her final year.  Arwen then completed a post graduate teaching course at Homerton College and became a Secondary Music Teacher.

Her career has seen her teach music at four different local secondary schools, being Head of Department at two. In addition, Arwen is Director of the Duxford Saturday Workshop – a community Music School for c.300 children and adults.  She combines her classroom and community musical commitments with some private teaching and regular concerts, performing both as an accompanist as well as part of a choir or orchestra.
